Obituary for George W. "Bill" Everhart

George W. “Bill” Everhart, 94, of Dalton, MA, passed away January 2, 2021 at his home, from a heart condition.
Born in Schenectady, NY on November 3, 1926, he was the son of George W. and Mary Stahle Everhart.
Educated in Pittsfield schools, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He then went on to graduate from Berkshire Business College in 1949.
He married the former Joan O’Donnell on July 30th, 1949.
Bill was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during WWII on the USS Adirondack.
Mr. Everhart worked as a computer programmer and analyst, starting at General Electric from 1951 to 1971, then working at First Aggie Bank and finally at Berkshire Computer, now Berkshire Information Systems, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Dalton American Legion Post 136, and the Dalton Lions Club.
A volunteer at Tanglewood, he enjoyed gardening, travelling and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan.
Bill, a typically versatile member of the Greatest Generation, could do your taxes, fix what was broken, and was a masterful gardener. When asked for advice, he would provide it willingly, taking time to help friends and family. Problems were addressed and gardens flowered beautifully.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Everhart of Dalton; three sons, William M. Everhart of Dalton, Christopher M. Everhart and Alice of Pittsfield and Robert J. Everhart and Joan of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Andrea, Patrick, Claire and Ian; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Henry and Samuel.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert S. Everhart and sister, Eleanor M. Everhart.
Funeral Notice: Services with full military honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Dalton Lion’s Club in care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
