Obituary for George W. Douglas Jr. M.d.

GEORGE WILBUR DOUGLAS, JR., M.D., 76, of 48 Brookside Drive, Pittsfield, died Saturday, April 11, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Oakland, California, a son of George W. Douglas, Sr. and Rachel Stevens Douglas, he was a 1950 graduate of La Sierra Academy in Riverside, California, a 1954
graduate of La Sierra College, and a 1959 graduate of Loma Linda University in Loma
Linda, California.
Dr. Douglas served his pathology residency at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He was director of the Microbiology Lab at the Center of Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, for four years before moving to Pittsfield in 1970.
From 1970 until his retirement in 1998, Dr. Douglas was a pathologist at Berkshire Medical Center where he specialized in microbiology.
Dr. Douglas was an active member of the Seventh day Adventist Church. He volunteered with HospiceCare in The Berkshires.
He was a member of the American Society of Microbiology, the College of
American Pathologists, and the American Medical Association. He enjoyed reading and was an avid bird watcher.
Dr. Douglas leaves his wife, the former Jane M. Knox, whom he married June 28,
1953, in Riverside, California.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, James W. Douglas and his wife,
Janie, of Plano, Texas, and Michael W. Douglas and his wife, Pattie, of Sachse, Texas;
a daughter, Terrill E. Douglas and her partner, Jon Julian, of Williamsville, Vermont;
nine grandchildren, Erin Smead, Kristy Gauthier and her husband, Dave, Rachel,
Graylyn, Gregory, Andrew, Emily, Evan, and Carly Douglas, a great granddaughter,
Taryn Gauthier, and a sister-in-law, Cindy Douglas. He was pre-deceased by a brother,
Stephen C. Douglas.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Service for GEORGE WILBUR DOUGLAS, JR., M.D., who died
Saturday, April 11, will be Saturday, April 18, at 4:00 p.m., at the Seventh Day Adventist
Church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial
contributions be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL
HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
