Obituary for Gary Chester Stergis

Gary Chester Stergis, 66, of 39 Eighth Street, Pittsfield, formerly of Peru, died Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at his home.

Born in Fitchburg on March 2, 1953, a son of George and Ann Potter Stergis, he was a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School and Berkshire Community College.

He served five years with the United States Air Force.

A video conference design engineer, Mr. Stergis was employed by Berkshire Medical Center as a media specialist.

Mr. Stergis had been a patrolman with the Dalton Police Department. He had been a selectman for the Town of Peru, served as a member of the Central Berkshire Regional School District for eight years, and served as the town’s representative to the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority.

He enjoyed cooking, fishing, collecting and feeding the birds.

Mr. Stergis is survived by his former wife, Judith Tarjick Stergis of Peru; his children, Joseph Stergis of Clarksburg, Kayla Stergis Tarjick of Peru, and Matthew Stergis of Peru; his brother, Drew Stergis of the state of Florida; and a family friend, Susan Bedard. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: In keeping with Mr. Stergis request, there are no services planned. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
