Obituary for Gary C. Snyder

Beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather, Gary C. Snyder, 64, of Dalton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Born in Pittsfield on December 5, 1951, he was the son of Charles Snyder and Dorothy Conroy Snyder of Dalton. He graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in 1969 and earned his associates degree from Berkshire Community College.
Gary worked at Crane & Company for 29 years and Cranwell Spa and Golf Resort for nine years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. A former assistant pro at Wahconah Country Club, golf was his passion, and he often recalled capturing the Little Brown Jug in 1974, besting his father in the playoff hole. More recently, he could be found adoring on his grandkids and helping his children with their home projects.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ellen Mara Snyder of Dalton, the love of his life; his mother, Dorothy Snyder; his brothers Richard of Green Bay, WI, and Thomas of Dalton; four children, William Belcher (Kate Morse) of Greenwich, NY, Ryan Snyder of Dalton, Dustin Belcher (Jen Belcher) of Dalton, and Ashley Snyder-Trombley (Matt Trombley) of Dalton; eight grandchildren, Bryan, Collin, Molly, Emma, Finnegan, Mara, Harlan, and Camden. He is also survived by loving in-laws, Elizabeth McClure of Pittsfield and Bernard Mara (Sharon Paris) of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his son, Brandon Mara Snyder, and his father Charles Snyder.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Gary C. Snyder of Dalton who passed away on September 20, 2016 will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton conducted by the Rev. William Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Gary may be made to the Dalton Benefit Association in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
