Obituary for G. Dixon Scott

G. DIXON SCOTT, 89, of 38 Allengate Avenue, Pittsfield, died Monday
afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Roodhouse, Illinois, on November 13, 1917, the youngest of four
children of Frank and Ella Dixon Scott, he graduated from the University of Illinois
where he majored in business.
A World War II veteran, he served as a Chief Warrant Officer with the United
States Navy where for three years he served in the South Pacific. The former publisher and Vice President of Mart Magazine, Mr. Scott moved to
Pittsfield in 1969 when The Buttenheim Family re-located their publishing Enterprise
from New York City to The Berkshires.
After Buttenheim sold out, he became the co-owner of the former Edgewood Motor Inn in Lenox.
Mr. Scott served on the Board of Directors of the Central Berkshire Chamber
of Commerce. An avid golfer throughout his life, Mr. Scott was a member of the Board
of Directors of the Country Club of Pittsfield and was later a member of the Wahconah
Country Club. He also enjoyed tennis and had a diehard devotion to his beloved
New York Jets. His first wife, the former Elvie Nichols of Dallas, Texas, whom he married in
1945, pre-deceased him. His second wife, the former Kazuko Kitamura, of Tokyo, whom he married in 1970, died January 6, 2003.
Mr. Scott is survived by a daughter, Katharine Graves of Bronxville, New York,
and a granddaughter. His son, Richard Scott, died in 2003.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for G. DIXON SCOTT, who died Monday, January 15, will be
Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. William
D. Furey, Pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Calling hours will precede
beginning at 10:00. Following cremation, burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in
Roodhouse, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Scott may be
made to St. Mark Church Meals on Wheels in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford
Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Scott also leaves his granddaughter, Kelly Graves, a law student at New York University.
