Obituary for Frank W. Speth Sr.

Pittsfield: Frank M. Speth, Sr., 83, of 119 Orlando Avenue, Pittsfield, died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on August 21, 1929 in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late Martin and Grace Peaslee Speth. A lifelong Pittsfield resident, he was educated in local schools and served with the United States Naval Reserves. He was employed in the Pittsfield Public School System for over twenty-five years as a custodian. He retired in 1994. Mr. Speth had also been a bus driver for many years in Pittsfield. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed bowling and for years bowled in the Candle Lanes Bowling Leagues. He also enjoyed watching football and in his earlier years had enjoyed playing softball. He leaves his wife, the former Dorathea W. Kie whom he married on July 9, 1948. A son; Frank W. Speth, Jr. of Pittsfield and four daughters; Ellen J. Lepage and her husband John of New Lebanon, NY, Susan C. Daley and her husband Raymond of Dalton, Sherry L. Rando of Pittsfield and Sally A. DeMarsico and her husband Chris of Troy, NH. He also leaves his sister; Marilyn Daley and her husband Frank of Pittsfield. Twenty grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law; the late Thomas Rando.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Frank M. Speth, Sr., of Pittsfield who died December 27, 2012 will be held Wednesday at 7PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Charles Young, chaplain for Hospice Care in the Berkshires. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Frank may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
