Obituary for Francis J. Garrity

Francis J. Garrity, 92, formerly of Lakeway Drive, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Melbourne Place where he had resided since 2009.
Born in Pittsfield on December 18, 1921, the son of the late James F. and Ruth E. Vincent Garrity,
he was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended Massachusetts State College
(now the University of Massachusetts).
A World War II veteran, Mr. Garrity served with the United States Navy where he was a
Gunner's Mate First Class stationed in the southeast Pacific.
Mr. Garrity was employed by General Electric Company where he was a Supervisor of
Production Control in its Ordnance Systems Division. He retired on January 1, 1984 with forty one years service. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs and the G.E. Foremen's Club.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448. He was also a member
of the Berkshire Forest Wardens Association.
Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, was important to Mr. Garrity, so much so he enjoyed making lifetime photo journals for his family. He also enjoyed reading and working outdoors.
Mrs. Garrity's wife, the former Barbara Beecher, whom he married at St. Mark's Church
in 1942, died December 26, 1987.
Mr. Garrity is survived by a son, Robert J. Garrity and his wife, Carol, of Pittsfield; two
daughters, Patricia A. Lusignan and her husband, Paul, of Lee, and Carolyn R. Carlson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Kristina Farina, Michael Jacobson, Janice Jacobson, Jean Jacobson, Robert F. Garrity, and Cheryl Garrity-Mulholland; and five great grandchildren, Brittany, Dawson, Catherine, Samuel, and Molly.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
At his request, funeral services for Francis J. Garrity will be private. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street,
Pittsfield, MA 01201.
