Obituary for Francis John McKenna
Francis John McKenna, 65, of 19 Weston Avenue, Dalton, died Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, on July 26, 1952, the son of Sara Freedman McKenna
and the late John McKenna, he was a graduate of New Jersey Schools, as well as Clayton Community College, and State University of New York.
A Vietnam War era veteran, he served as a sergeant with the United States Air Force.
Mr. McKenna worked in the newspaper industry for more than thirty years, eighteen
of which were at The Berkshire Eagle, where, at the time of his death, he served as Chief Financial Officer.
He had played drums in a band. He enjoyed camping and was a New York Giants fan.
Mr. McKenna leaves his wife, the former Sharon Stone, whom he married August 26,
1978.
He is also survived by his mother, Sarah McKenna of Port Charlotte, Fla., a daughter, Amie Brown (husband Mike) of Hughesville, Penn.; a son, John McKenna of Dalton; a brother,
Russ Freedman of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and his four grandchildren whom he loved so dearly, Michael Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Joseph Brown, and Mara McKenna.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Suzanne Keaber.
FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Francis John McKenna will be held Thursday, November 2, at 11:00
a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with Minister Warren C. Dews, Jr., officiating.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire United Way
in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
