Obituary for Frances F. Browne

FRANCES BROWNE, 83, of Pittsfield, died Sunday, February 24, at Berkshire
Medical Center. She had resided at Providence Care Center of Lenox for the past two years.
Born in Portland, Maine, November 12, 1924, a daughter of Frederick J. and Ida L. Day Furbish, she was a 1942 graduate of Deering High School in Portland, Maine. She was a graduate of the former St. Luke's School of Nursing and a 1986 graduate of the Registered Nursing Program at Berkshire Community College.
She had served as a Radioman First Class in the United States Navy during
World War II. Mrs. Browne was employed as a registered nurse at Berkshire Medical Center
for many years. Prior to that, she had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Berkshire
Place and at the Neighborhood Health Center, and had also volunteered her time with the
American Red Cross.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She had been a foster
parent for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress who also baked and decorated cakes, and won blue ribbons at local fairs for her pies. She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, as well.
She leaves her husband, Victor D. Browne, Sr., whom she married in 1946 in Portland, Maine.
Besides, her husband, Mrs. Browne leaves two sons, Steven D. Browne of Boston
and Victor D. Browne, Jr., of Pittsfield; two daughters, Frances L. Browne of Pittsfield
and Laurel A. Bush of Pittsfield; a sister, Winnifred F. York of Portland,
Maine; a grandson, Michael S. DeMarsico and a great grandson, Shawn R. DeMarsico.
She was pre-deceased by a brother and five sisters.

FUNERAL NOTICE:Funeral services for FRANCES BROWNE will be Wednesday, February 27, at
1:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Dr. Luis E. Benavides, Pastor of First
United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning
at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Browne may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street,
Pittsfield.
