Obituary for Floyd L. Peronto

Mr. Floyd L. Peronto, 81, of 66 Unkamet Drive, Pittsfield died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on June 27, 1925 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin he was the son of the late Francis and Lucy Chalupsky Peronto. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Two Rivers, Wisconsin schools and was 1943 graduate of Two Rivers High School. He received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 1950 from the University of Wisconsin and he received his masters degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1979. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a 1st lieutenant navigator for the 11th combat cargo squadron in the China, Burma and India Theater. He was employed as an electrical engineer for thirty-five years with General Electric in the power transformer-engineering and marketing divisions. In 1956 he represented the power transformer department as a transformer specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the time of his retirement in 1985, he was the manager of renewal parts, sales & engineering at General Electric. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton and a former longtime communicant of St. Francis Church in Pittsfield where he served as an extraordinary minister and on the parish council. He was also a member of the St. Francis Holy Name Society and senior choir. Mr. Peronto was also very active with the Bishop's Annual Catholic Appeal where he served as a fund drive treasurer. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century & Pensioners Clubs and a member of the Berkshire Hillsmen Barbershop Singers local SPEBSQSA where he served as a past president, secretary, show chairman, logopedics, chairman, treasurer and board member for many years. In 1985 he was recognized with the Outstanding Barbershopper of the Year Award. He also served as an instructor for Literacy Volunteers and participated in the reading for the blind. He enjoyed skiing, golfing and traveling. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He leaves his wife, the former Joan Wiseman of Pittsfield, MA whom he married on August 25, 1951 in Madison, Wisconsin. He also leaves two sons, Mark W. Peronto of Claremont, CA and James R. Peronto of North Hollywood, CA. Four daughters, Nancy A. Hipps of East Flat Rock, NC, Jane E. Cummings Carlson of Cross Plains, WI, Marjorie L. Peronto of Ellsworth, Maine and Amy C. Peronto of Dalton, MA. He also leaves two sisters, Dorothy Grall of Reedsville, WI and Joyce Gunther of Manitowoc, WI and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Kathryn Peronto, late of Charlotte, NC who died October 18, 1993.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Floyd L. Peronto, 81, of Pittsfield who died January 21, 2007 will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church in Dalton with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. A private burial service will take place at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, MA. Mr. Peronto was also predeceased by a brother, the late Francis Peronto who died in 2006. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Peronto may be made to the Catholic Relief Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
