Obituary for Florence J. Coussoule

FLORENCE JANET COUSSOULE, 93, of 36 Richmond Street, Cheshire, died Thursday afternoon at home.
Born in Housatonic, October 1, 1913, the youngest child of L. Frank and Harriet
Wolcott Vincent of Hoag's Corners, New York, they then moved to Pittsfield, where she
attended school, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1932. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Coussoule had first worked as a secretary at General Electric Company for nine years and later worked for the Department of Public Welfare from 1960 until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cheshire, and a member of the
Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, cooking and baking, and loved to give
gifts to everyone. She also loved the outdoors and animals, and after retiring, became
an avid painter. Mrs. Coussoule was a family historian and kept detailed records and photographs of generations of Vincents. She was a descendant of Adrian Vincent, who crossed the
Atlantic three times in the early-1600s, finally settling in New Amsterdam, now New York City, in the mid-1600s, and of whom genealogy books have been written. She shared decades of memories and enthralled friends and family for her entire life with her storytelling.
She married her husband, George C. Coussoule, on January 18, 1941. They moved to Cheshire in 1947. He died December 19, 1987.
Mrs. Coussoule is survived by a son, George V. Coussoule, with whom she
resided, and a daughter, Marilyn J. Coussoule of Lanesborough.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for FLORENCE JANET COUSSOULE, who died Thursday,
July 26, will be private. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. There are no calling
hours.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Coussoule may be made
to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire. Mrs. Coussoule also leaves generations of nieces and nephews, and her
daughter's companion, James P. McCauley. She was pre-deceased by her brothers,
Merton, Raymond, and Delmar, and her sisters, Mamie, Jenny, and Ethel.
