Obituary for Flora Calero Chacon
Flora Calero Chacon passed away on Sunday April 25, 2021 at BMC surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with colon cancer.
She was born in Cartago, Costa Rica on July 24, 1943 to Aquiles Chacon Castro and Eduviges Barquero Segura, one of nine children. She emigrated from there at a young age and stayed at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary at Bellefontaine in Lenox, Ma in the late 1960s. It was there that she met Carlos Calero who, after a ten-year courtship, she married.
Flora had a plethora of skills, having been a telephone operator, ballet instructor, nurse aide, house sitter, PCA, rape crisis counselor just to name a few. Closest to her heart was the decade she spent greeting travelers and serving guests at the Williamsville Inn, where she received an award for her dedication and commitment to serving the traveling public from then Gov. William Weld in 1999.
Having lost her husband in 1990, she had to bear a great burden that she did with strength and courage. A strength that carried her through to her final days at her home in Housatonic.
She loved the birds, she loved her cats and she will be missed by all people that were ever graced by her
presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents Aquiles and Eduviges, her husband Carlos and a son at birth, Andrew, one sister Maria Chacon Barquero and two brothers, Jesus Chacon and Juan Chacon, a brother-in-law Oscar Rodriguez Calderon and a sister-in-law Maria de Los Angeles Conejo.
She leaves behind her son, James Calero, granddaughter, Eleanor Calero, sisters, Amada Chacon Barquero, Carmen Chacon Barquero and her husband, Gerardo Arguedas, Belen Chacon Barquero and her husband, Alvaro Richmond, Alejandra Chacon Barquero her husband, Elicineo Chavarria, brother, Bernardo Chacon and her beloved brother-in-law, Fausto Calero as well as scores of nieces and nephews all over the Americas.
Services will be held Tuesday May 4th, 2021 at Dery Funeral Home on Bradford St in Pittsfield, MA from 11 am to 12pm followed by her interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Housatonic, MA.
Due to COVID-19, we ask that anyone who chooses to attend to please adhere to social distancing rules, always wear a mask and be safe. A live stream of the service will also be made available for anyone who wishes to join us around the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
