Obituary for Everett Chester ""Brick" "Red"" Fletcher
Everett Chester “Brick” “Red” Fletcher, 91, of Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at his home.
Born in in Albany, New York on August 8, 1926, to Martha Fletcher, he was educated in Glens Falls schools and was a graduate of Glens Falls High School.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Fletcher enlisted with the United States Navy on May 2, 1944, and served as a Fireman First Class, some of that time overseas, and was honorably discharged on July 10, 1946. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
After returning from the War, Mr. Fletcher worked for Westinghouse, and then went to work for General Electric Company where he was an engineer in the Naval Ordnance Systems Division. He retired on September 1, 1988 with more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs.
Following his retirement, Mr. Fletcher was a volunteer for Elder Services of Berkshire County assisting behind the camera at Pittsfield Community Television (PCTV) for Berkshire Senior TV. He enjoyed his work at PCTV and often helped with other shows.
He enjoyed golf and shared that passion with his son and grandson. He also enjoyed listening to music, particularly trumpet, jazz, and big band. Beginning in his childhood, he enjoyed playing the trumpet, and his children remember him practicing when they were young. In retirement, he took up woodworking and building furniture for his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Fletcher’s wife, the former Arline L. Smith, whom he married November 7, 1953, in Glens Falls, died April 15, 2016.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Fletcher-Udel (husband Edward) of Dalton; his son, Mark C. Fletcher of Tewksbury; and three grandchildren, Aaron Udel, Ariel Udel, and Remy Fletcher.
