Obituary for Eugene R. Vosburgh

Dalton: Eugene R. "Zeke" Vosburgh, 81, of 215 East Housatonic Street in Dalton died Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 25, 1929 in Richmond, the son of the late Sherley and Nellie Schilling Vosburgh. He was raised in Richmond and was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War having received the Bronze Star. Zeke went on to graduate from the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan and then went to work at the former South Street Chevrolet for fourteen years in the service department. In 1959 he went into business for himself. He had operated his own auto repair and service center in Pittsfield for over fifty years. Most recently he was the owner of Vosburgh Automotive along with his two sons, Gary and Mark. He was a member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post #155 in Dalton and a life member of the Pittsfield Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, camping, cars, traveling and spending special times with his family. He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Kathleen A. Brophy of Dalton whom he married on June 22, 1957 at St. Agnes Church in Dalton. Three sons; Gary Vosburgh and his wife Karen of Hinsdale, Mark Vosburgh and his wife Sandra of Pittsfield and John Vosburgh and his wife Karen of Pittsfield. His daughter, Lynn Martin and her husband James of Pittsfield. Nine grandchildren; Brian, Shaun, Kelly, Peter, Cassie, Tyler, Lyndsay, Cheryl and Jessica. He also leaves two brothers; Donald Vosburgh of Richmond and Lloyd Vosburgh of Stamford, VT. He was predeceased by three brothers; Nelson, Francis and Kenneth and four sisters; Bernice, Leona, Rita and Elaine.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Eugene R. "Zeke" Vosburgh who died April 9, 2011 will be held Wednesday at 10:15 AM from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL Home in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial with military honors will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery-Foley Funeral Home. Memorial donations in memory of Zeke may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or to the St. Agnes Church Memorial Fund both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St. Dalton, MA 01226. Zeke was a very loving and caring person and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. The Vosburgh family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Care of the Berkshires for the wonderful care and compassion they showed Zeke and his family during his illness. Especially, Geri, Lisa, Linda, Laurie, Audrey and Don as well as his wonderful caregiver, Tami.
