Obituary for Eugene M. Vereen

EUGENE MARION VEREEN, 71, of 360 West Housatonic Street, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, May 19, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Georgetown, South Carolina, on February 25, 1938, the son of Frank and
Luddie Weston Vereen, he was a 1956 graduate of Middletown (Connecticut) High School where he was active in all sports. Eugene excelled in baseball for which he received invitations to two professional tryouts.
He served with the United States Air Force from July 11, 1958 to June 13, 1962, where he was an Intercept Operator and for which he was granted a Top Secret Security clearance. During his service, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Vereen was a Resident Staff Member of Soldier On�United Veterans of America in Pittsfield. For many years, he was employed by the Veterans Administration at its West Haven, Connecticut, facility.
He had also worked as a home caregiver for Home Instead Senior Care and had
worked at various mold-making jobs.
Eugene was a Friend of Bill W and was very active in committee work with this
fellowship.Mr. Vereen is survived by a daughter Cherrie Vereen, his former wife, Katherine
Vereen; a niece, Susan; brother-in-law, James Williams; and his loving community at
Soldier On.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for EUGENE MARION VEREEN, who died Tuesday, May
19, will be held, Friday, June 6, at 11:00 a..m., at Soldier On, 360 West
Housatonic Street, Pittsfield, with Rev. Willard H. Durant, Chaplain, officiating. There
are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Vereen may be
made to Soldier On.. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
