Obituary for Eugene "Bud" O'Keefe

Eugene R. "Bud" O'Keefe, 90, of 23 Sunnyside Drive in Dalton died Saturday at home. Born in Hartford, CT on November 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Francis and Edna McCabe O'Keefe. A longtime Dalton resident, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1943 graduate of the former Dalton High School. He was also a 1947 graduate of Berkshire Business College. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the United States Navy. He was employed as the Chief Finance Manager for General Electric Company in the Ordnance Division for forty years. He retired in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post #155 in Dalton where he served as the finance officer for forty-nine years. An avid golfer, he was longtime member of Wahconah Country Club. He enjoyed traveling and had visited many European and Asian countries. He leaves his wife of 69 years, the former Marjorie Fuller whom he married on June 7, 1947 at St. Agnes Church in Dalton. Three daughters; Karen R. West and her husband Jim of Dalton, Terry A. O'Keefe and her husband Tim of Crescent City, CA and Karen Jean Mongue and her husband Alton of New Ashford. He also leaves a son; Brian F. O'Keefe and his wife Karin of Longmeadow.Thirteen grandchildren; Carrie Dessereau, Daniel O'Neil, Molly Meczywor, Abbie Smith, Katie Sondrini, Brian O'Keefe, Meaghan O'Keefe, Lauren Rhoades, Erin Meczkowski, Jillian O'Keefe, Alec O'Keefe, Aidan O'Keefe and Maggie Nichols. Nine great grandchildren; Cameron McGinnis, Maisie McGinnis, Casey Meczywor, Carson Meczywor, Emma Meczywor, Declan O'Keefe, Aidan O'Keefe, James Bo Sondrini and Banks Sondrini. He was predeceased by a son; Dennis G. O'Keefe late of Yardley, PA who died November 1, 2006. He was also predeceased by two brothers; Francis and Robert O'Keefe.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Eugene R. "Bud" O'Keefe who died June 11, 2016 will be held today, Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 11:15 AM from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Agnes Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Entombment with military honors will follow at St. Michael the Arch Angel Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery in Pittsfield. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of "Bud" may be made to the Dalton American Legion or to St. Agnes Academy both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226
