Obituary for Eugene W. Funk

Eugene William Funk, Sr., 81, of 18 Parker Street, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Hillsdale, New York, on February 13, 1942, the son of George and Edith Stalker Funk, he attended schools in New York state.

Much of Mr. Funk’s working career was as a truck driver, delivering milk and working for Freedman Steele and Sheffield Plastics. He also did welding and had been a farmer.

Mr. Funk enjoyed hunting and fishing, ice fishing, camping, and fishing on Lake Ontario. He also enjoyed working on race cars, and drove race cars back in the 60s, as well as going to Lebanon Valley and the Chatham Fair. Time with his children and grandchildren was what he loved most.

Mr. Funk leaves his wife, the former Beverley French whom he married February 15, 2014. He is also survived by two daughters, Melinda (husband Patrick) Nilson of Great Barrington, and Miche’al (Orin) Niles of Dover Plains, N.Y.; two sons, Michael Funk (fiancée, Erica Foss) of Sheffield, and Eugene W. (wife Linda) Funk, Jr., of Copake, N.Y. step children, Elizabeth (husband Greg) Carpenter of Pittsfield, Raymond (wife Alice) Ferrin of Great Barrington, and Brenda Ovit Carmel of Pittsfield; three brothers, James Dellea of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Frank (wife Jean) Dellea of North Carolina and William Funk (wife Patty) of North Port, Fla.; A sister, Susan (husband George) Stalker of Hillsdale, N.Y.,; as well as nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, ten step grandchildren and ten great step grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law, Jean Funk, a stepson, Jeffrey Ferrin, and a grandson, as well as his three sisters, Alice, Betty, and Sandy.


FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Eugene William Funk, Sr., will be held Saturday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. and DERY FUNERAL HOME in PITTSFIELD with Pastor Nick Foss Officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:00-11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sheffield Hose Company or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
