Obituary for Ernestine M. "Ernie" Geary (LaDouceur)

Cheshire – Ernestine M. “Ernie” Geary, 67 of 12 Richardson Street, Cheshire, passed away on August 9, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Pittsfield on February 13, 1950 the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Angeline M. (Gilbert) LaDouceur. She was educated in local schools and obtained her GED. Ernie was a nurse at Berkshire Medical Center for 25 years. She worked in the Outpatient Mental Health department and was the surgical booking coordinator. She and her husband Michael also own and operate O’Geary’s Package Store in Adams. Ernie loved animals and watching animal programs on T.V., she especially loved her New England sports teams and Egyptian memorabilia. Ernie was a member of the Pittsfield Elks lodge and the BMC Players (Employee Theater Group). Her husband also coached the Lanesborough American Legion baseball team and Ernie was the team’s most loyal fan. She is survived by her husband Michael E. Geary whom she married July 13, 1984 at St. Theresa’s Church in Pittsfield; her son; Joseph R. Ginthwain Jr. and his wife Nicole of Cheshire; her grandchildren; Amie L. Ginthwain and Sean M. Ginthwain of Cheshire; her sisters; Eleanor M. Brites and her husband Richard of Pittsfield and Hazel Faith Ellen LeVardi of Wichita, KS; her brother; Ernest J. LaDouceur Jr. and his wife Sharon of Glendale, AZ; and her best friend Patricia Pigott of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by her brother; John M. LaDouceur; her mother-in-law Anna Geary and her father-in-law James Geary; Ernie took wonderful care of both of her in-laws prior to their passing. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ernestine M. “Ernie” Geary who passed away August 9, 2017 will be held Monday at 11 AM at the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, celebrated by the Rev. Charles F. Young, chaplain of Hospicecare in the Berkshires. Burial will private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Sunday evening from 4 to 7 PM at the Cheshire Funeral Home. Memorial donations in memory of Ernie may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
