Obituary for Ernest Chase
Ernest Chase, 66, of South Lee, died peacefully on June 10 surrounded by his
family and friends at Fairview Hospital.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Angeline Chase. He grew up in
Berkshire Village and graduated from Mt. Greylock High School and Massachusetts
College of Art.
He pursued a career that utilized his talents as a fine artist, designer, sculptor, and
fine woodworker. Examples of Ernie's work can be found throughout the United States in the form of paintings, wall installations, cabinets, garden sculptures, spaceships, theme park sets, Horse drawn carriages and company logos.
He was a partner in the Berkshire Carriage works, a business in which he restored antique carriages and designed and built new horse drawn vehicles. Most recently, he has worked for Asia Galleries in Great Barrington.
In addition to painting, he had many other interests that included travel, collecting antiques or unusual objects, and photography.
Ernie was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Chase.
He will be extremely missed by his sister Elizabeth Chase, his nieces Marsha
Vinette and Karen Rollins, his sister-in-law Norma Chase, his brother-in-law David
Katz, his cousins, Bill Tatro, Bob Tatro, Carolyn Davis, Janet Hernandez, and Tom
Tatro, his dear friends Molly Avratin, Penny McCoy and Margot Clark and her
children Robin and Jenny. He will especially be missed by his close college friends,
David and Jane Lewis, John Campanale, and Manny Crisostomo. Because Ernie was full of wit, knowledge, and kindness, he was loved by everyone who knew him, and will be missed by his many many friends who included Becky and Wilson MacDonald, Rhett Mundy, as well as coworkers, colleagues, his Michael's family, and those who were particularly supportive during the last weeks of his illness.
A gathering of friends and family to honor Ernie was held at Michael's.
Memorial contributions may be made (payable to Mt. Greylock Scholarship Fund,
c/o P.O. Box 233, South Lee, MA 01260) to fund a scholarship in his name for a Mt. Greylock High School senior who will be attending Massachusetts College of Art. The DERY FUNERAL HOME was in charge of arrangements.
