Obituary for Ernest W. Beals

ERNEST WALTER BEALS, 90, of 46 David Street, Dalton, died Friday,
February 5, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, September 28, 1919, a son of William and Sophie Biesiegel
Beals, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Beals enlisted with the United States Army on
November 20, l942. He served a one-year tour of duty overseas. Among other medals,
he received two purple hearts and the bronze star. He was honorably discharged on May
22, 1945.
Mr. Beals was employed by General Electric Company as a transportation aide.
He retired in 1982 with 42 years service.
He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club and a member of
the General Electric Pensioners Club on which he served as a Vice President.
Mr. Beals was a member and past commander of the Dalton American Legion.
He was also a bartender there for many years. He was also a member of the Dalton
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and bowling. In his younger years, he as an
avid roller skater.
Mr. Beals leaves his wife, Lelia Bailey Mongue Beals, whom he married July 26,
1973, in Dalton.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepson, Robert Mongue and his wife,
Denise, of Oxford, Mississippi; two stepdaughters, Lisa Mongue of Mystic, Connecticut, and Doris Mongue of Pittsfield; three step grandsons, Justin Mongue, Ethan Mongue, and Seth Peto and a step great grandson, Deacon Peto, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beals was pre-deceased by two brothers, William Beals and Earl Beals and
by three sisters, Anna Flanders, Alice Oudin, and Catherine Ackley.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ERNEST W. BEALS, who died Friday, February 5, will be
Tuesday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME with Rev.
Irene B. Jones, officiating. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Beals may be made to Dalton Ambulance and
Rescue in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
