Obituary for Elzie Babbs

Elzie Lee Babbs, 92 of Pittsfield, passed away April 19, 2022, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Douglas, Georgia on March 6, 1930, he was the son of Johnny Pope Babbs and Annibelle Leggette Babbs.

Elzie worked in construction for many years as a heavy machine operator and laborer and was a proud member of the Local Laborers 473, in which he had just received his 50-year recognition certificate for outstanding achievement and continuous membership of the Laborers' International Union of North America.
Elzie contributed to the building of many landmarks such as, Berkshire Medical Center, Columbia Arms, Berkshire Community College, Williams College and too many more to mention. He was very proud of his life's accomplishments and the love for his family, in which he successfully instilled strong ethics and values in his children to consummate and carry on for future generations.

Elzie enjoyed an array of hobbies which included gardening, fishing, hunting, refurbishing antique cars, and raising livestock.

Elzie is survived by his four daughters, Angelia Babbs of MA, Janet LaBreck (Russell) of GA, Kimberly Babbs (Doug) of MA., Tikki Babbs Stracuzzi (Earl) of MA. A son, Cornell Babbs (Karen) of MA. Sisters, Eleazer Hicks Fuller of FL, Francis Babbs of WI, Ann Carter of WI, and Linda Babbs of FL. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Donald T. Babbs, and former wife Emma Babbs, as well as many siblings.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Helen Keller National Center, Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, or the Perkins School for the Blind for individuals with disabilities to access life changing benefits, in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
