Obituary for Elvyn W. Blackstone

Mr. Elvyn "Whitney" Blackstone, 74, of 718 Pecks Road in Pittsfield died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons. Born on December 12, 1933 in Beals, Maine, he was the son of the late Elvin and Elsie Gallagher Blackstone. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Vernon, Vermont schools and was a 1952 graduate of Brattleboro High School in Brattleboro, VT. He served in the United States Army. He was employed as a manager at General Electric in Pittsfield for thirty-seven years retiring in 1987. He was a member of Berkshire Full Gospel Church where he served as an elder, teacher and vocalist. He also would serve from time to time in ministry at the church in the pastors absence. He was a vocalist at Berkshire Full Gospel Church and enjoyed composing and writing his sermons for church services. His church was a very important part of his life. He also enjoyed singing and he was an avid sports fan. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Stockwell of Pittsfield whom he married on August 10, 1957 in Putney, VT. A son; John A. Blackstone of Lanesboro and two daughters; Anne Marie Gwinnell of Pittsfield and Teresa L. Blackstone and her husband Daniel J. Ling of Middle Grove, NY. He also leaves a brother, Arnold Blackstone and his wife Janet of Greenfield, MA. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Elvyn "Whitney" Blackstone, 74, who died October 25, 2008 will be held Tuesday at 1:30 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Phyllis Hostetter, pastor of Berkshire Full Gospel Church. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service at the Dery Funeral Home.
