Obituary for Elsie L. Domenichini

Mrs. Elsie Louise Domenichini, age 102 of Pittsfield, passed away on December 25th at home, with her husband and two daughters by her side. She was born on May 9, 1918 in Pittsfield, daughter of Joseph and Maria Lavazza Giordano. She was educated in local schools including Pittsfield High School.

She leaves her loving husband, Orlando, whom she married on January 16, 1943 at Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield. They have shared almost 78 wonderful and endearing years together, creating many traditions and memories for their children and grandchildren to cherish.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two devoted daughters, Diana Domenichini of Pittsfield and Andrea Justice of Northbridge, MA. She also leaves five grandchildren, Matthew Domenichini of Maui, Hawaii, Anthony Coppola of Minnesota, Alisa Lemire of Charlton, MA, Erica Jackson of N. Brookfield, MA, and Danielle Johnson of Northbridge, MA, eight great-grandchildren, Brianna, Justine, Isabella, Carter, Cara, Jacob, Ryan and Drew and one great-great-grandson Grayson, all of whom she treasured.

They all adored her and appreciated her as a wonderful role model. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Paula Marie Domenichini on March 25, 1965. She was also predeceased by her brother, Bruno Giordano and her three sisters, Delphine Manzolini, Gloria Vittone and Dorothy Pytko all of Pittsfield.

Mrs. Domenichini was primarily a homemaker, but after raising her children she was employed at Yankee Motor Lodge in Lenox for several years, retiring in 1980. She was a long-time communicant of All Souls Church and more recently of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield.

She was an accomplished seamstress and an excellent cook. She enjoyed flower gardening, long walks in the neighborhood and also travelling. She especially loved her many trips to Italy and her yearly visits to Ogunquit Beach in Maine. She enjoyed reading biographies and history, listening to the opera and often surprised her family by wearing the latest fashion. Later in life, she began to enjoy birdwatching from her beautiful backyard. She had several bird feeders and loved reading about the native species, her favorite being the cardinal. She continued to add many flowers to her perennial gardens. She looked forward to watching old movies and jeopardy every night.

Reading remained important to her and just prior to her death she was re-reading one of her favorite books "Gone With the Wind" which she first read in 1936. She also looked forward to taking rides through the Lakewood section of Pittsfield where she grew up, remembering where all her friends and relatives had lived. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and preparing their favorite Northern Italian dishes, which she had learned from her mother.
