Obituary for Ellen Theresa Meunier

Ellen Theresa Meunier, 68, died peacefully at her home on June 5, 2021. Born in Pittsfield on December 16, 1952, Ellen was the daughter of the late Roland G. and Claire C. Bradley Meunier. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic Central High School in 1970 and immediately started her career at New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, where she remained for 25 years, working her way up from Switchboard Operator to Service Representative. There, she was instrumental in organizing the IUE-CWA Local 81255 in Pittsfield. After her retirement, she worked as a dispatcher at American Medical Response for several years before working at Walmart as a cashier and service desk attendant.

Ellen was a former communicant and active member of St. Mark’s Parish, where she was one of the first women to fill a variety of supportive roles. She was a founder and President of the Pittsfield Mets Fan Club. Among other things, Ellen hosted players at her home, cooked and baked for the entire team, and mended uniforms. For her hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication to the Pittsfield minor league teams, she was recognized in Sports Illustrated magazine in a “Life of (Rick) Reilly” column. Ellen was also very patriotic and a faithful supporter of our veterans. She was a dedicated member of the Desert Storm Family Support group, organizing and sending care packages as well as welcoming home soldiers returning from war.

Ellen was passionate about politics and life and was happy to share her thoughts on both, always to the delight of her family and friends. Family was everything to Ellen, and her vibrant presence was felt at every gathering. Though she never had children of her own, she was godmother to many, was the adored Aunt Ellen to her legion of nieces and nephews, and loved by her furry children and her “cousins by the dozens”. In addition to her late parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Paul and George Meunier, and her sisters Claire Brown (Walter) and Ann Pariselli (Americo, “the Count”). Ellen leaves behind her brothers Peter A. Meunier (Betsy) of Hinsdale, James Meunier of Mechanicsville, VA., John K. Meunier of Liverpool, NY., and Mark G. Meunier (Christine) of Dalton. She also leaves her sisters Margaret M. McMahon (Martyn) of Richmond, Mary Lou Burdick (Barry) of Cheshire, and Catherine M. Grady (Michael Cooney) of Dalton, as well as her former in-laws, Mary Ellen Meunier, Vincent Musacchio, Jr., Kathy Mack, Nancy Meunier and John Grady.

In respecting her wishes, Ellen’s family will hold a private remembrance, and she will be buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lee. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Soldier On in her memory, to the Dery Funeral Home 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
