Obituary for Ellen F. Maslak

Ellen Federico Maslak, 86, formerly 71 Pembroke Avenue, Lakewood section of Pittsfield died Sunday June 6, 2010 at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility where she has resided since March of 2004. Born on July 21, 1923 in Dawson, New Mexico a daughter of the late Alphonso and Santa DiCicco Federico. She attended schools in Pittsfield. Ellen was last employed by the General Electric Company for 35 years retiring in 1987. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs, a communicant of Sacred Heart Church; she enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and reading. Her first husband, Edward F. Pirzl whom she married in 1948 died on Sept. 1, 1991. Her second husband Theodore Maslak whom she married in 1966, died March 8, 1969. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Edwina P. Barbis of New York City. Four sisters, Jessie Scalise of Pittsfield, Jennie Pasquarelli of the State of Florida, Edna Alfano and her husband Felix of Pittsfield and Nancy Scoco and her husband Lawrence of Pittsfield. Many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Michael G. Pirzl on July 19, 2004 and by two sisters, Mary Mundipare and Lil Foley.

Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Ellen Federico Maslak will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials in her memory may be made to Saint Joseph's Soup Kitchen in care of the funeral home. Edwina would like to thank the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for their care, love and compassion shown to her mother over the past six years, also a special thank you to the staff at Berkshire Medical Center.
Ellen will be truly missed by all who loved her.
