Obituary for Ellen Marguerite Leitch (Careau )

Ellen Marguerite Careau Leitch, (also known as Helen) was born in Adams on March 20, 1927, daughter of Selma (Leppelt) and Frederick Careau. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Irene Shaw and Rita Burgess, and a brother Francis Careau. She was married in 1953 to Gilbert A. Leitch, and lived in Windsor where she participated in town government. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Dalton for many years and was active on many committees. Ellen worked at General Electric in the payroll department. She then stayed at home to raise her children David, Susan and Norman. She also provided foster care to an infant girl she called Molly. Ellen obtained her real estate license and was self employed as a realtor alongside her husband. She then worked at Beloit Jones in Dalton, and later at Shaefer Eaton in Pittsfield. She retired to stay home and take care of her husband until his passing. She lived in Pittsfield until she moved to Craneville Place long term care facility, where she passed away on January 18, 2018. She leaves behind her three children and their spouses, Stacey, Peter and Colleen, 4 grandsons Nicholas Persson and his wife Ellen, Evan Persson and his wife Brittany, Andrew Leitch and Eric Leitch, two granddaughters Andrea Haddix and her husband Mort, Kim Perry and her husband Sean, great grandchildren Noah Perry and Aria Perry, nieces and nephews Michael Shaw, Sylvia Les, Carol Aitken and Joseph Shaw. Ellen was very proud of her children, and especially her grandchildren. She was always available to listen to their accomplishments, and support them in their many endeavors.
