Obituary for Ellen Maura Garbowitz

Ellen Maura Garbowitz, 64, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her home.
Born in Pittsfield on February 1, 1951, daughter of the late Morris and Caroline Rilla Garbowitz, she was a 1968 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1972 graduate of Berkshire Community College.
Miss Garborwitz was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Office
Supervisor with the Registry of Motor Vehicles. She worked 17 years at its North Adams office and 13 years at its Pittsfield office. She retired on October 1, 2003 with 30 years service. She had been a union steward for the Registry, as well.
Ellen was a member of A.A.R.P. and was a member of the Massachusetts Retired
State Employees Association. She had been a volunteer at the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center.
She enjoyed gardening, making flower arrangements, and decorating her home in seasonal themes. She was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, as well.
Miss Garbowitz is survived by a sister, Linda L. Spillane and her husband, Gerald, of
Wilbraham; three nephews, Gary W. Spillane, Mark A. Spillane, and Michael T. Spillane; a great nephew, Justin M. Spillane; her great niece and godchild, Kaileigh T. Spillane, and her other great nieces, Ashley DeGray and Alyssa J. Stebbins; and her best friend of 55 years, Carol A Gogan, of Pittsfield.
She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Sandra M. Garbowitz who died October 17, 2003,
and Kathy Garbowitz who died in 1955.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
A graveside service for Ellen M. Garbowitz will be held at a later date with burial to be in
St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54
Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
