Obituary for Elizabeth M. Witanek

Elizabeth Marie Witanek, 90, a Gold Star Mother, who was a longtime resident of
School Street, Cheshire, died Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Craneville Place of Dalton
where she had resided since January 2012.
Born in Lanesborough on January 6, 1923, a daughter of Harold J. and Grace
Decker Enright, she was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1940 graduate of
Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Witanek was a homemaker.
She had been employed by Waverly Fabrics in Adams where she was a drapery
cutter for fourteen years. She retired at age 59.
She enjoyed crafts, especially needle crafts, crocheting, and ceramics.
Her husband, Chester L. Witanek, Sr., whom she married March 2, 1946, in St.
Mark Episcopal Church in Adams, died September 27, 2001.
Their only son, Specialist Chester L. Witanek, Jr., who served with the United
States Army 101st Airborne Division, was killed in Viet Nam on July 25, 1968.
Mrs. Witanek is survived by two brothers, Harold E. Enright of Jacksonville,
North Carolina, and John L. Enright of Dalton; a sister, Mary Enright Ziemba of
Omaha, Nebraska; as well as her caregivers and longtime neighbors, John and Carleen
Butler and their children, Erin Mucci and her husband, Michael, and Jonathan Butler,
all of Cheshire; and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Orville J. Enright and Robert P. Enright,
and four sisters, Dawn Delmolino, Myrtle Blouin, Shirley Petell, and Madeline Yon.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Elizabeth Marie Witanek, will be held Monday, October 28,
at 11:00 a.m. at DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME with Rev. William D. Furey
officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will
precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to Soldier On in care of the DERY-CHEHSIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O.
Box 445, Cheshire.
