Obituary for Elizabeth J. Mahoney

Mrs. Elizabeth J. "Betty" Mahoney, 74, of 184 Doreen St. Pittsfield
died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on November 5, 1932 in North Pownal, Vermont she was the daughter of the late Earl and Delia King Hatch. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, she was educated in North Adams and Pittsfield schools and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1951. Mrs. Mahoney was employed as a clerk in the drafting department at General Electric in Pittsfield from 1951 to 1957. In the 1960's she began an eighteen year career as a waitress at the former Stanley Club in Pittsfield. In 1981 she returned to General Electric as a clerk where she worked until retiring in 1993. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed traveling and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun and the Bradley Tele-Theater. She leaves her husband, John J. Mahoney of Pittsfield whom she married on November 10, 1956 at the former Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past November. She also leaves two sons, Michael J. Mahoney of Rocky Hill, CT and Robert E. Mahoney of Granville, MA and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Elizabeth "Betty" Mahoney, 74, of Pittsfield who died December 23, 2006 will be held Friday, December 29th at 8:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. Mrs. Mahoney also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Thomas and Patrick Mahoney who's sporting events she loved attending. She also leaves nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Earl Hatch. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Betty may be made to Sacred Heart Church or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
