Obituary for Elizabeth A. Guiles

ELIZABETH A. GUILES, 92, of 32 Pease Avenue, Dalton, died Wednesday,
January 2, at Balfor Retirement Community Hospice Care Center in Louisville,
Colorado. Born in Pittsfield, May 11, 1915, the daughter of William J. and Ellen J. Parsons
Gleason, she was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1934 graduate of St. Joseph
Central High School. Mrs. Guiles was a homemaker. During the late 1930s she had worked at the former First National Store and during the 1940s had worked at General Electric Company, both in Pittsfield.
She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church for more than 50 years, and for many years, she made mittens for their annual Parish bazaar.
She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who also enjoyed baking and knitting, and
traveling to visit her sons during the Winter months.
Her husband, Francis R. Guiles, whom she married October 12, 1940, in Pittsfield, died March 19, 1984. She was also pre-deceased by her long-time companion, Bernard Carmel, who died in 2003.
Mrs. Guiles is survived by two sons, Michael F. Guiles of Port Orange, Florida,
and Joseph W. Guiles of Lafayette, Colorado; a sister, Eleanor Carey of Pittsfield; and
two grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ELIZABETH A. GUILES, who died Wednesday, January
2, will be Tuesday, January 8, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME,
with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev.
Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling
hours will be Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Guiles may be made to HospiceCare in TheBerkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Mrs. Guiles also leaves to cherish her memory her daughters-in-law, Patty (Michael) and Laurie (Joseph), grandsons, Ashi Guiles and Freddy Guiles, and many
nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends, who will miss her. She was pre-deceased
by five brothers, and her long-time companion, Bernard Carmel, who died in 2003.
