Elizabeth Farrell "Betty" Adams, 90, formerly of Adelaide Avenue in Pittsfield, passed away January 28, 2021.
She was born in Dalton, MA on June 12, 1930 to the late Frederick and Marguerite Clark Farrell.
Elizabeth attended Dalton Elementary schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield.
She married George W. Adams, Jr. in 1951. They raised 5 cherished children and enjoyed such things as their yearly summer trips to Misquamicut Beach, their annual 4th of July picnic at Savoy Lake, or just spending time on the family porch with everyone discussing the events of their day. In 2001 George and Betty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and relatives. He predeceased her on January 1, 2003.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Adams successfully transitioned into the work place as a secretary at Buttenheim Publishing and later at GE Ordnance for a time.
A communicant of Sacred Heart Church and formerly of St. Agnes Church, she was a member of the Senior Center Reading Club in Pittsfield. Betty was an avid reader, LOVED to shop, enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, and especially liked spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah DiNicola and husband Raymond of Pittsfield, Lisa Adams, of Pittsfield, Mary-Jo Zeising and husband Mortimer of Nashua, NH, and Amy MacHaffie and husband Craig of Holly Springs, NC; a son, George W. Adams, III and wife Donna of Holyoke, MA; a brother, Michael Farrell and wife Kathy of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren (Laura, Sarah, George IV, Nathan, Yoshi, Liz, Shane, Mallory and Tim.) and eight great-grandchildren.( Kirsten, Michael, Lucy, Emma, Paige, Liam, Sloan, and Jameson.) She also is survived by her attentive cat, Pumpkin, whom she adored.
Betty was proud of her Irish heritage and large family. She left numerous nieces and nephews, who loved "Aunt Betty" and several described her as "original, funny, sweet, and my favorite."
She was predeceased by an infant son Shaun Adams; three brothers, Frederick Farrell, Jr., John Farrell, Robert Farrell, and two sisters, Mary Louise Farrell and Kathleen Tremble.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, SATURDAY, February 6, 2021 at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow at Main Street Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or to St. Agnes Church in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
