Obituary for Eleanor K. Zdanis

Mrs. Eleanor K. Zdanis, 88, of 78 Lillian Street, Pittsfield died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Center. Born on April 3, 1918 in Pittsfield, MA she was a daughter of the late James and Agnes Murphy Nixon. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield she was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Zdanis whom she married on June 8, 1940. He died on August 7, 1998. A homemaker, she had worked at General Electric in Pittsfield at one time. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and for many years she and her late husband were active members of the So-Ed Ballroom Dance Club of Pittsfield. She leaves a son, Bruce Zdanis of Pittsfield and a daughter, Joan P. Sloane also of Pittsfield. She also leaves a brother, Paul B. Nixon of Pittsfield. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Eleanor K. Zdanis, 88, of Pittsfield who died June 24, 2006 will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Dery Funeral Home prior to the service. Mrs. Zdanis leaves her three grandchildren, Matthew P. Sloane of Pittsfield, Christopher J. Sloane and his wife Debora(OK) of Ephrata, PA and Paul LaRochelle of Dalton and her two great grandchildren, Andrew and Evan Sloane. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Zdanis and her granddaughter-in-law, Debora Sloane. She was predeceased by two brothers, the late James Nixon and the late F. Emmett Nixon and by a sister, the late Marelan)OK) Larrow. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
