Obituary for Eleanor G. Malmgren

Eleanor Gertrude Hitchcock Malmgren, 92, formerly of 14 Francis Ave. Pittsfield, Ma. died Sunday at Mount Greylock Extended Care facility in Pittsfield, Ma. where she has resided since April of this year. Born on January 16, 1914 in East Dorset, Vermont a daughter of the late Henry G. and Bessie Brophy Stone. She attended schools in Vermont and was a 1931 graduate of Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vt. Mrs. Malmgren had been employed for Harry Sykes C.P.A., Berkshire Life as a secretary and for Genzabella Realty. In retirement she was an area Avon representative. She was a youth group leader for the Girl Scouts and the Episcopal Church. Affectionately known as "MA" by her children and "Nana" by her grandchildren everyone enjoyed her pies at family gatherings. She was an excellent seamstress making her own attire for her competitions at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. A leader and lifetime member of TOPS and worked out at Nautilus to the age of 89. Her pride and joy in later life were rides in her Little Red Car. She was a member and communicant of Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester, Vt. And St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield. She was the wife of the late William E. Hitchcock and the late Wallace T. Malmgren. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Hitchcock of Jericho, Vt. And Wallace Malmgren of Henderson, Nevada. Three daughters, Barbara Genzabella and Elizabeth Rood both of Hinsdale, Ma. and Roberta Whittaker of Anderson, Indiana. A Sister, Ruth Fowler of Bradford, Vt. 17 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.


Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Eleanor G. Hitchcock Malmgren will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorials in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. 01201. Eleanor is lovingly survived by daughters in law, June Hitchcock and Robin Malmgren. Sons in laws, John Genzabella and Stephen Whittaker. Brother in law, Robert Fowler. Sisters in law, Sarah Stone and Janice Kinney. Several nieces and nephews and cousins. Also a special longtime friend, Wilma Batease. She was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy J. Roche and Brothers Donald and Guy Stone.
