Obituary for Elbert W. Morgan

Elbert W. Morgan, 82, of 270 Elm Street died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on December 25, 1933 in Harramond, TN, he was the son of the late Elbert and Maggie Webb Morgan. A longtime Pittsfield resident, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He then went on to graduate from the former North Adams State College. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married his wife, the late Betty Livsey Morgan on May 15, 1963. She died on September 19, 2010. Mr. Morgan was employed as a civil engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works for thirty years, retiring in 1999.Prior to that he had worked for the General Electric Company in the transformer division. He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and the Massachusetts Retired State, County & Municipal Employees Association. A stellar basketball player in high school and college, he was a member of the 1950 CYC Dream Team. In 2010 he was inducted into the Pittsfield Basketball Hall of Fame. He enjoyed landscaping and working in his yard. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and building computers. He leaves two sons; Robert P. Morgan and his wife Maureen of Plymouth, MA and James J. Morgan of New Lebanon, NY. Two daughters; Lisa I. Boatman and her husband Darrell of Pittsfield and Jennifer A. Morgan of Pittsfield. He also leaves his companion; Adelaide R. Gross of Pittsfield. Two sisters; Millie Poccoroba and her husband Sam of Pittsfield and Sara Patella of Pittsfield. Four grandchildren; Ivy Rogers, Christina Rogers, Shaun Rogers and Connor Morgan and three great grandchildren; Isabelle Davis, Ethan Morressette and Elizabeth Henry.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Elbert W. Morgan, 82, of Pittsfield who died March 2, 2016 will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 12 Noon at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Thomas Marshall. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Tuesday prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Elbert may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
