Obituary for Edward Soldo
Edward N. Soldo, 88, of Cheshire, MA, died peacefully on December 28, 2018 at Springside Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Ed was the son of Nikob and Katherine (Styzpek) Soldo. He was born April 29, 1940 in Winooski, VT and relocated to the Farnarms section of Cheshire as a child. Ed attended local schools excelling in baseball and played for the Pittsfield Tyler Aces and the Mattoon, IL Phillies. Ed proudly served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 and was both player and manager for the Army’s baseball team while stationed in Verdon, France. He worked for Greylock Plastics in Pittsfield, MA until the plant relocated to Virginia. Ed was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling in Cheshire. Ed was a frequent visitor to the Farnams Ski Area across the lake from his home. He learned vegetable gardening from his father, Nick and was the envy of local gardeners with his “prize winning” vegetables. Always a devoted Yankees fan, Ed was rarely seen without his NY cap. Locals gave Ed the title “Mayor of Farnams” and often sought his historical recollection of the U.S. Gypsum Limestone Quarry or Trophy Large Mouth Bass from the “Res”.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by brothers Albert and Frank, sister Eleanor (Drzyzga), sister-in-law Ida Soldo, brother-in-law Henry Drzyga, and niece Diane (Soldo) Scott. Ed leaves behind his nephews Jim Soldo and Bob Soldo of Adams, Bruce Driska (wife Sandra) of Connecticut, and nephew Brian Drzyzga of New Jersey; nieces DJ Cox (husband David) of North Carolina, and Sandra Herlihy (husband Michael) Arizona, many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, as well as many loyal friends in Cheshire and around the globe.
