Obituary for Edward W. Scharmann

Edward William Scharmann, 88, of 26 Oxford Street, Pittsfield, died Wednesday,
February 20, 2013, at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where he has resided since October 2012.
Born in Pittsfield on January 19, 1925, a son of Felix H. and Clara M. Thiel
Scharmann, he was a graduate of Pittsfield schools.
A World War II veteran, he enlisted with the United States Navy in January 1943, served as a Ship's Cook, Second Class, and was honorably discharged in April 1946.
Mr. Scharmann was employed as a printer for General Electric Company for many years.
He enjoyed cooking, was fond of animals, and loved family get-togethers and
celebrations.
Mr. Scharmann is survived by his loving companion of more than forty-six years,
Mary L. Handy Ripley, of Pittsfield, and her daughters, Pamela J. Ripley and Kim M. Briggs, whom he raised as his own, and grandson, Schuyler E. Briggs; as well as his cat, "Buffy", with whom he loved to play.
He is also survived by four sons, Charles, Kenneth, Jeffrey and David Scharmann, two daughters, Debbie Scharmann and Daryl Wojcik; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Richard Scharmann, and a sister, Ethel Chapin.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Edward W. Scharmann will be held Monday, February 25th, at
11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Scharmann may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street,
Pittsfield.
