Obituary for Edward P Richards

Edward Palmer Richards, 88, of Hinsdale passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, on November 29, 2022.

Born in Pittsfield on September 26, 1936, the son of Edward W. and Alice Palmer Richards.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Holyoke Junior College.

Ed was a proud US Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Pittsburgh during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He married S. Christine Waldheim, his beloved wife of 67 years, on September 3, 1955.

Ed was predeceased by his youngest son Steve, and sister Joan Kardasen.

He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. Ed enjoyed a long and successful career in the construction industry, with his most notable local project, the FAA radar tower atop Bryant Mountain in Cummington.
Ed was a long-time member of the Hinsdale Fire Department, Hinsdale Lions Club, and served on many town boards in Hinsdale and was a long time Town of Peru selectman.

Ed is survived by his daughter Debbie Cahill and husband Kevin, his son Scott and wife Cyndie, brother Bo, 10 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild., and many dear family members.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of Ed’s life, and presentation of military honors will be held in the spring, at the South Cemetery in Peru.
