Obituary for Edward F. "Tennessee" Munch

Edward Francis "Tennessee" Munch, 94, of 780 Peru Road, Hinsdale, died
Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at his home where he was born.
Born on October 19, 1918, a son of Frank J. and Laura K. Newberry Munch,
he was educated in Hinsdale schools and was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High
School.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Munch enlisted with the United States Navy on
July 27, 1938. He served aboard the USS Sims Destroyer 409, and was one of 13
survivors out of the 242 servicemen aboard when the ship was sunk. He received the Silver Star Medal for service during the Battle of Coral Sea, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Chief Motor Machinist's Mate on October 22, 1945, having served seven years one month and twenty five days.
Mr. Munch was employed by General Electric Company as a carpenter and tool maker in Building 42. He retired in 1975 with 27 years service.
During the 1970s, he was co-owner of MRM Machine and Tool in Pittsfield.
Mr. Munch was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Hinsdale, and was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clearwater, Florida.
He was a fine-carpentry carpenter and an avid gunsmith. He enjoyed fishing
and taking fishing trips to Canada, boating and building and repairing boats. He was also an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman.
Mr. Munch is survived by his wife, the former Irma M. Allard, whom he married
July 10, 1940, in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward F. Munch, Jr., of Peru; a sister, Carolyn Daish, of Hinsdale; four grandchildren, Laura A. Munch Wakefield and her husband, Travis, of Dillon, Colorado, Edward F. Much, III of Sevierville, Tennessee,
Theresa J. Much of Hinsdale, and William J. Munch of Dalton; and many nieces and
nephews; as well as his caregivers, Mary Munch, Regina Peck, Kathy Walton, and Sharon Guy.
He was predeceased by his brother, John A. Munch, late of Peru.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Edward Francis "Tennessee" Munch will be held Monday,
December 31, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Church
in Hinsdale, celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will be in
St. Patrick's Cemetery in the Spring. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Munch may be made to HospiceCare in The
Berkshires in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street,
Dalton.
