Obituary for Edward H. Gehan

Pittsfield: Edward H. Gehan, 84, of 72 Kittredge Road died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center. Affectionately known as "Mr. G." he lived a long life at times filled with tragedies and indifference. He was born on August 2, 1928 in Holyoke, MA a son of the late Harold and Alice Sullivan Gehan. He had attended for many years the Day Program at BCARC. Ed was labeled with Autism, Tactile Defensive and mentally challenged. Those who knew Mr. G. had other labels; loving, warm, kind, watchful and humorous. Ed was a great collector, not of valuable items, but items he liked. Items like people's licenses, Big Y cards, rubber bands, spoons and especially quarters. He loved going out in the community and socializing as long as coffee was on the agenda. Ed was a true gift for people who knew him and will be sadly missed. He leaves his brother; Robert Gehan of Ocala, FL and his many longtime friends; Connie, Michelle, Diane, Freda, Dawn, Kim and Lidia.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A private Celebration of Life for Mr. G. will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in the family lot at St. Rose Cemetery in South Hadley, MA. There are no calling hours. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
