Obituary for Edward J. Brophy Jr.
Edward J. Brophy, Jr., 52, of 176 Columbus Ave. died Thursday April 21, 2016 at home. Edward was born in Pittsfield on December 3, 1963 a son of the late Edward J. Sr. and Jean T. Morrison Brophy. He was educated in local schools and was a 1981 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He went on to attended Berkshire Community College and the University of Massachusetts.
Edward was employed as a case worker for Elder Services for many years; he also worked for Hillcrest Educational Centers. Edward was quite intelligent, actually testing to the genius level; with a dry wit. Edward was also an avid reader, enjoyed his Boston sports teams, had a passion for Music and the Arts, collected comic books, loved animals; especially dogs and cats and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
He leaves his sisters; Moira E. Brophy and her partner Donna and their son Elijah all of Pittsfield, Martha A. Brophy and her son Jedidiah and daughter Campbell of New York, NY, Shiobbean E. Lemme and her husband Kent and their children Thomas, Jack and Abby of Pittsfield, his brothers; Robert E. Brophy of Boston, MA, Christopher M. Brophy of Pittsfield, MA, his Uncle; David Morrison, and many cousins. The family would like to thank Edward's group of lifelong friends who were an important part of his life. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Neil C. Nash.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Edward J. Brophy, Jr. who died April 21, 2016 will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. James K. Joyce. Burial will be held at a late date. A Calling hour will precede the service from 9: 00 to 10:00 AM. In Lieu of flowers Memorial donations in honor of Neil and Moira may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
