Obituary for Dorothy D. Smith

Mrs. Dorothy D. Smith, 78, of 23 Shetland Drive, Pittsfield, Ma. died Monday morning at her home. She has resided in Pittsfield for 2 and a half years, coming from Butler, New Jersey where she had resided for many years. Born on December 28, 1927 in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey a daughter of the late William D. and Dorothy Horton DeLazier. She was a 1945 graduate of Butler High School in Butler, NJ. She also attended Hackensack, NJ. School of Nursing for a year. Primarily a homemaker, at onetime she had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Arthur Newman in Butler, New Jersey. Mrs. Smith was active with the Girls Scouts of America in New Jersey, a volunteer at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J., a member of the Butler United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Lenox, Ma. She enjoyed crafting, ceramics and oil painting. She is survived by her husband, Walter F. "Bud" Smith whom she married April 9, 1950 in Butler, NJ. Two daughters, Donna Lee Smith of Gloucester, Ma. and Sandra S. Gattasso of Pittsfield, Ma. and Two Grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Dorothy D. Smith who died June 5, 2006 surrounded by her loving family will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. Funeral services will be held Saturday in Butler, New Jersey. Burial will be in Mount Rest Cemetery, Butler, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials in her memory be made to Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Smith is lovingly survived by her two grandchildren, Tiffany and Brad Gattasso and by her son in law, Lawrence Gattasso.
