Obituary for Dorothy Drake (Pierce)

Dorothy Olson Drake, 90, of Lanesborough, died peacefully on October 10th 2022 due to complications from Covid-19.

Dottie was born July 9, 1932 in North Adams, MA to Pearl Mackey and John Olson of New Ashford. She attended the one-room schoolhouse in New Ashford and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1949.

An avid Boston Red Sox fan, she could often be found watching “the boys” with a beer in hand, staying up late for extra innings. Dottie loved looking her best and never left the house without coordinating her hair, nails, and makeup. She made beautiful cross-stitch projects, was a lover of all animals, enjoyed playing pitch, and always had a Willie Nelson CD in the stereo. She cherished her New Ashford heritage and collected heirlooms, news articles, ancestry information, and photographs from generations past.

She is survived by daughters Holly Oakley (Pete) and Robbin Tubbs (Robert), her sister Helen Frye, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many other loved ones.

Dottie proved time and time again to be a resilient lady, having endured a lot of loss in her lifetime. She is predeceased by three of her children: Michael (1975), Gary (2002), and Patti Jo Dunn (2012), as well as her sister Gwen LePage (2003), granddaughters Carly (1985) and Kristie (2012) Tubbs, and the love of her life Edward F. Drake (1991). In spite of that, she kept moving forward, and even managed to make others smile. She was helped by her unique sense of humor and her belief that she would one day be reunited with the ones she lost. We love her to pieces.

Her family would like to thank Mt. Greylock ECF for the wonderful care and friendships they’ve given to Dottie for the past three years.
