Obituary for Dorothy G. Cardell
Mrs. Dorothy G. Cardell, 89, of 1025 Williams Street, Pittsfield, died Monday evening at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility where she resided since February. Born on November 9, 1917 in North Adams, MA she was the daughter of the late Harold and Thelma Grant Burdick. She was educated in North Adams schools and was a 1935 graduate of Drury High School. She also was a graduate of the Boston Lying In, a nursing training school. She had resided in Pittsfield since 1968 and prior to that had resided in Phoenix, Arizona. A graduate nurse, she had worked in nursing at one time for several years at the former Hillcrest Hospital and in Boston area hospitals. She married her husband, the late Robert J. Cardell on April 12, 1952 in Pittsfield. He died on November 4, 2002. She was a member of St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox. A member of the Dalton CRA, she enjoyed fitness classes, swimming and dancing. She also enjoyed singing and was former member of the Sweet Adeline's. She leaves two daughters, Roberta C. Francis of Hinsdale and Kathryn J. Cardell of Pittsfield. A brother, John Burdick of North Adams, MA, three grandchildren and a great grandson. She was also predeceased by a brother, the late Monroe Burdick.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Dorothy G. Cardell, 89, of Pittsfield who died April 23, 2007 will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM at St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox conducted by the Rev. Daina Salnitis, pastor. Burial will take place at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Cardell also leaves her three grandchildren; Audrey G. Kendig, Burton Spencer Francis IV and Erik Francis and her great grandson; Lloyd Kendig as well as her son-in-law, Burton Spencer Francis III. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
