Obituary for Dorothy A. Bliss

Dorothy A. Bliss, 66, of 405 Pittsfield Rd. in Lenox died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on November 18, 1942 in East Otis, MA she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Ada Barton Baker. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, she was educated in Lee schools. She was employed as certified nursing assistant for many years doing private care nursing. She had also worked at the former St. Luke's Hospital and the former Young's Rest Home in Pittsfield. She retired in 1999. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting, and her dogs. She also enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves two daughters; Kathleen A. Rivera and her husband Edward of Pittsfield and Tammy L. Haddad and her husband John of Pittsfield. Two sons; David C. Bliss of Pittsfield and George J. Bliss and his wife Deborah of Pittsfield. A step-daughter; June Bliss of the State of Florida and two sisters; Mary Goodell of Pittsfield and Betty Phillips of Pittsfield. She also leaves four brothers; John Baker, Joseph Daniels, Charles Daniels and Perry Daniels all of Pittsfield. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother; William Baker and by two sisters; Marian Baker and Florence Taylor. She was also predeceased by a step-daughter, the late Harriet C. Holmes.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Dorothy A. Bliss, 66, of Pittsfield who died May 22, 2009 will be held Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducteded by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Children's Advocacy Unit of the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
