Obituary for Dorothy L.S. Adams

Dorothy L. S. Adams, 75, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Springside of Pittsfield.
Born on March 17, 1940, in Pittsfield, the daughter of William T. and Sarah Lewis Staples. Dorothy was educated in Pittsfield Schools and was a 1958 honors graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Dorothy worked for 35 years at the former J. J. Newbury's Department Store, where she was a clerk and office trainer.
She then enrolled at Berkshire Community College, earning her degree in Early Childhood education, and taught at Berkshire Center for Families & Children. Dorothy was instrumental in developing the after school program at the Christian Center, where she tutored countless students.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, beginning in 1969, she served on numerous Boards and Committees, such as the Myra Whitaker Woman's League Chapter and also teaching Sunday School for many years. Along wuith Marcia Scace, Dorothy was instrumental in the formation and leadership of "Make A Joyful Noise Singers," a children's Choral Group.
She enjoyed attending performances at Barrington Stage Company with her friends, who she affectionately referred to as her "Theater Group." Dorothy also enjoyed attending charity events and numerous functions. Above all, Dorothy loved spending time with her family.
She leaves her sister, Helen L. Austin of Pittsfield, her nephew; Timothy A. Austin, two nieces; Christine Williamson and Jennifer Williamson. Two great-nieces; Victoria Lee Austin and Tyler Williamson, and her great-great nephews; Jada and Ze'vion.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved son; Darryl L. Adams, her nephew; Scott A. Austin, her brother; William T. "Sonny" Staples, Jr.; and three sisters; M. Frances Staples, Ethel J. Staples and Rose E. Williamson.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Dorothy L. S. Adams, of Pittsfield who died October 28, 2015 will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM from the First Baptist Church, 88 South St., celebrated by the Rev. Sheila Sholes-Ross, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10:00AM at the church. Memorial donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity in care of Dery Funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
