Obituary for Doris M. "Dodi" Martin

Doris "Dodi" M. Martin, 81, of 594 Windsor Road in Cheshire died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on November 12, 1934 in Adams, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Gertrude Kittler Scholz. A lifelong resident of Cheshire, she was educated in Adams schools and was a 1953 graduate of the former Adams High School. She went on to attend the Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing which she graduated from in 1956. In 1959 she went on to receive her nursing degree from Syracuse University. A registered nurse, she was employed for many years at North Adams Regional Hospital and in the emergency room at Berkshire Medical Center. She also worked at North Adams Regional as a nursing educator.
Active in her community, Mrs. Martin sang in the choir at St. Mary of the Assumption Church and was a longtime member of the 4H where she was also a 4H Leader. She was a member of the Cheshire Historical Commission, Cheshire Board of Registrars and the Cheshire Ladies Reading Club. Active with many outdoor activities at the Episcopal Youth Camps, she also enjoyed judging vegetables at area agricultural and Grange fairs, gardening and traveling. She had a special love of animals. She leaves her husband of 56 years; Everett "Gus" Martin of Cheshire whom she married on June 20, 1959. She also leaves her children; Kim Martin and wife Sandy, Wendy Warner and her husband Mark, Melanie Martin and partner Beth Thurber and E. Shawn Martin and his wife Stephanie along with her grandchildren; Joshua Warner, Bryant Martin, E. Dylan Martin, Madelaine Martin and Jack Martin. She also leaves her sister, Elizabeth Randall.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Doris "Dodi" Martin of Cheshire who died January 27, 2016 will be held Monday at 10:15 AM from the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church celebrated by the Rev. Matthew Guidi, pastor. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home in Cheshire.
