Obituary for Doris M. Allen

Doris (Maguire) Allen, 93, of 265 Walker Street, Lenox (formerly of Washington Mt. Rd, in Dalton) died on June 26, 2016.
Born in Chicopee, MA on May 5, 1923, daughter of Florilda (Adams) Maguire and William H.K. Maguire, Sr. She graduated from Major Beal High School, Shrewsbury, MA in 1941 and from Becker Business College in Worcester.
She was a secretary in Worcester for the Boy Scouts of America, State Mutual Life Assurance Co., and Reed Prentice Corp.
She moved to the Berkshires in 1958 and was Asst. Church Secretary at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Pittsfield. She worked a short time at G.E. Ordinance before going to work at Beloit/Jones in Dalton as executive secretary to the Vice President of the Plastics Division. She became Administrative Assistant to the General Manager of the Paper Division and held that position until her retirement in 1985.
Mrs. Allen was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Women of St. Stephen's, St. Mary's Chapter, a Choir mother, Girl Scout leader, Board member of Muscular Dystrophy Association, an officer and active member of Chapter T P.E.O. Sisterhood, a member of Votre Soiree Dance Club and a volunteer at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was a wonderful kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was very warm, enthusiastic and welcoming to everyone she met. Her enthusiasm and overall joy was contagious.
She enjoyed dancing, travelling, camping, reading and gardening.
After 68 years of marriage, she was pre-deceased by her husband John. W. Allen, Jr. whom she married on May 3, 1944. She is survived by her son, John W. Allen, III and wife JoAnn of W. Springfield, MA; her daughter, Cynthia Allen-Murphy and husband Richard of Bridgewater, MA; a brother-in-law, William H.K. Maguire, Jr. and wife Madelyn of Rutland, MA.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Kira A. Thompson and her husband, Scott, Sean J. Allen, and his wife, Jessica, Luke A. Allen, Jacquelyn A. Murphy and fiancé Ben Leavitt, and Benjamin J. Murphy; and four great grandchildren, Cody J. Allen, Connor K. Allen, Brayden S. Thompson, and Annabelle G. Thompson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Notice -- A memorial service for Doris M. Allen who died June 26, 2016 will be held at St. Stephen's church, 67 East Street, Pittsfield, MA at a later date Burial will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, MA. The family will greet friends in the church parlor immediately following the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doris' memory may be made to St. Stephen's Memorial fund, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
