Obituary for Donna Marie Moon

Donna Marie Moon, 79 of Pittsfield, passed away March 22, 2024 at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Facility. She was a resident at Berkshire Town until March 1, 2024.

Born in Westfield, Ma. June 3, 1944, she was the adopted daughter of Lawrence and Juliette Vigeant Viens. Lawrence passed when Donna was 10. Thanks to Lawrence and Juliette we have fond childhood memories of Summer St. in Adams and the family farm on rte.116 in Adams.

With the passing of Juliette, our great uncle Samuel Harold Vigeant and his wife Catherine, our great aunts Stella and Anita all from the Vigeant family, Donna (Mom) embarked on a journey to find her birth parents around 1985.

Mom found her birth mother through searching in old records and correspondence. Bravely she called Doris Mildred Fitzpatrick and was reunited and able to establish a relationship with Doris and her four daughters, the oldest also named Donna, Kathy, Gail, and Robyn.

Mom was a secretary for many years including WBRK and City Savings Bank in the marketing department while raising a family as a single parent. Her secretary skills stayed with her throughout her life. She was a meticulous filer and record keeper, and well prepared for any event.

Mom enjoyed car rides with Bob, collecting dolls, reading and writing, walking, she had a lifelong love of animals and Sunday afternoon coffee. You may have seen her walking the neighborhoods near North St. with her Pekingese Chihuahua named Duffy.

She will be missed by her boyfriend and life companion of a quarter century Robert Squires, two sons, Lawrence Moon of North Adams, and Daniel Moon and wife Angela of Pittsfield. Two granddaughters, Sarah and her husband Barrett of San Francisco, CA and Abigail and fiance Brady of Worcester, MA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Loralee K. Moon, a poet and writer. The loss of Loralee in 2011 left a huge hole but Mom carried on with strength.

Mom wanted nothing more out of life than to raise a family. Well done Mom. You have always been there for us. You have been generous, loving, caring and a good friend. You have provided a lifetime of listening, advice and shelter. You have exemplified how to keep going through all the challenges of life.

Your lessons will be lasting and you will be missed.

Funeral Notice: Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 3 at 1p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Calling hours will be held prior at St. Stephens from 12pm to 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
