Obituary for Donald Patrick Thibodeau

Donald Patrick Thibodeau, 102 years old, formerly of 1078 Main Street, Dalton, passed away December 9, 2020, at his home of 180 Pleasant Street, Dalton, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 5, 1918, in Garthby, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of the late Laurant Saloman Thibodeau and Victoria (Collette) Thibodeau.

Mr. Thibodeau attended Canadian and Pittsfield Public Schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a United States Army Veteran who served during World War II, Company E, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division, during campaigns in Southern France, Germany, and the Battle of Anzio, Italy. He received 2 Purple hearts, 4 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Oak Leaf Cluster.

Donald married the former Eva A. Mercier on August 21, 1948, at St. Peter’s Church in Great Barrington, MA. She predeceased him on December 15, 2010. Mr. Thibodeau worked as a custodian for the Central Berkshire School District for 20 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Dalton Dry Cleaners, Western MA., Electric, and Saint Agnes Church for several years.

A communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton, he was a life member of the Dalton American Legion. Mr. Thibodeau enjoyed gardening and maintaining his home. He also took great pleasure in spending time with his family, taking trips to Fort Ticonderoga and yearly drives along the Mohawk Trail during the Fall foliage season.

He loved home-cooked meals and lunch at McDonald's. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Patriots and Boston Bruins games with his son. He loved visits from his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, John L. Thibodeau and wife Jean, with whom he resided; two daughters, Priscilla A. Drysgola and husband Bernard of Pittsfield, and Donna J. Thibodeau-Chow and husband Vitus of Waterford, NY; seven grandchildren, Stacie Panetti, husband (Michael), Amie Drysgola, Phillippe Chow (Rachael Leibson), Emily Chow, Aubrey Chow, Kyrsten Thibodeau and Matthew Thibodeau; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Anna Chow as well as his niece Carrol Gearhart.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., at Saint Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will be on April 19, 2021, at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Dalton American Legion and Berkshire Hospice in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME 890 E. MAIN STREET, DALTON, MA 01226
