Obituary for Donald Clairmont

Donald R. Clairmont, 93, of Lanesborough, MA, passed away on August 23, 2022.

Born in Lanesborough, MA on August 11, 1929, he was the son of Edward and Ruth (Mickle) Clairmont.

He was educated in Lanesborough schools before joining the Army in 1949, where he served as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

Mr. Clairmont married the former Dorothy E. Langenback on October 22, 1954.

Don, also known as “Digger”, was the Lanesborough Highway Superintendent for 40 years where he also served as the town’s Tree Warden. After his retirement, he was later employed at Newton Construction for 21 years.

He had been a member of the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department, Lanesborough Police Department, the VFW and the Dalton American Legion.

Don was a hard worker and in fact didn’t fully retire until he was in his mid 80’s. His family was his pride and joy and he loved every minute he spent with them. He and his wife spent many winters in Florida. He enjoyed fishing, riding his bike, playing cards, reading, sitting on the swing and visiting with those who stopped by.
Mr. Clairmont is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Clairmont of Lanesborough; Son, Richard D. Clairmont (Susan) of Hancock, MA; Daughter, Ruth A. Knysh (Joseph) of Lanesborough; Grandchildren, Matthew Clairmont (Patricia), Elisha Young, Branden Knysh, and Jaclyn Knysh; Great-grandchildren, Nicholas Clairmont, Abigail Clairmont, Leah Young and Dow Young. He is also survived by his brother, LeRoy Clairmont (Carol) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Clairmont was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa, his sisters Phyllis and Ruth (Bette), and brothers, Edward and John (Puzzy).

No public services will be held.
